Sunway Invited to Attend Shanghai Roundtable with Former Pakistani Diplomats, Representing the Corporate Sector

From Sunway’s continued engagement in the Pakistani market to its joint research with the Pakistan Study Centre at Fudan University being selected for inclusion in Shanghai’s “Regional and Country Studies Research Reports”, Sunway’s long-term experience in supporting Chinese enterprises’ overseas expansion is gaining broader recognition across government and academia.

On 10 September, Sunway’s director of finance and supply chain advisory, Mr. Brian Chen, and project manager in the Capital Markets Department, Ms. Claire Liu, were invited by the Pakistan Study Centre of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University to participate, as the sole corporate representatives, in a roundtable discussion in Shanghai with a delegation of former Pakistani diplomats.

This event coincided with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. The Pakistani participants included the former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, several former Pakistani Ambassadors to China, and the Consul General of Pakistan in Shanghai, alongside other senior diplomats. The Chinese participants included experts and scholars from leading universities and think tanks, including Fudan University, Shanghai International Studies University, the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.

The roundtable comprised two sessions focusing on China–Pakistan cooperation and the international and regional landscape. The first session, themed “From Strategic Partnership to Economic Implementation,” focused on the development priorities of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0. Cooperation under CPEC is evolving from a primarily government-led infrastructure model toward greater G2G and B2B collaboration, with increasing emphasis on industrial investment, technology cooperation, clean energy, critical minerals, and the development of local industrial capabilities.

The second session focused on shifts in the international and regional landscape. Located at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East, Pakistan maintains extensive ties with the Muslim world. As regional cooperation and industrial linkages continue to deepen, Pakistan’s role as an important gateway connecting China with markets across South Asia, the Middle East and the broader Muslim world is expected to become increasingly prominent. The Pakistani delegation also emphasised that its friendship with China represents a long-standing and stable strategic choice. Building on this strong foundation, the two sides exchanged views on how to translate long-standing political trust into future cooperation across industry, technology, education and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

During the exchange, Sunway shared its experience in supporting Chinese companies in their international expansion and expressed its commitment and confidence in establishing a long-term local partnership and service network in Pakistan. Sunway has already established formal cooperation with a number of local professional service providers and continues to expand its network of partners and resources across legal and regulatory compliance, business and investment services, and industrial projects.

The Pakistani representatives recognised Sunway’s role as a bridge facilitating cooperation between Chinese and Pakistani enterprises, as well as its integrated service model that brings together resources from both markets and effectively connects the capabilities of Chinese companies with the practical needs of the Pakistani market.

As Chinese companies’ international expansion enters a new stage, standalone legal services, individual market channels, or one-off resource matching can no longer fully address the needs of businesses throughout the entire lifecycle, from market entry to sustainable operations.

Sunway will continue to build on its foundation of legal and compliance services while developing an integrated service network for Pakistan and other international markets. Responding to the practical needs of businesses, Sunway brings together legal, industry, capital, local partnership and other professional resources to provide end-to-end support covering market entry, transaction structuring, regulatory compliance and the implementation of local partnerships.

Through its continuously expanding integrated overseas service network, Sunway will continue to serve as a bridge between Chinese companies and international markets, supporting businesses not only in entering new markets, but also in establishing a sustainable and stable presence in those markets.
